Hey! It Has Knitting Content!

Surprise, surprise! I actually have some knitting content. And, I’m able to blog about it because John’s asleep and it isn’t even 9:00 p.m. That means, I have free access to the Mac. Speaking of computers, my laptop is, officially, dead. Something to do with the screen, if I understood correctly. The hard drive, however, is intact. I was told that if I purchase another laptop, they’ll happily transfer all my data over to the new computer.

John is heading out to Costco tomorrow, and he’s promised he’ll have a look at laptops while he’s there. It looks like there will be a new laptop in my future (keeping my fingers crossed). But I digress. Back to knitting.

Saturday evening, John walked past me as I was knitting and asked where the camera was. I told him and he came back behind me and took this picture.

P1060137This is how I knit. I don’t usually have my iPod between my knees (that’s what he thought was so funny) but that’s where the pattern was… on my iPod. I had transferred the pattern from Ravelry to Dropbox, and then accessed it via my iPad. It was a simple pattern but 23 pages long (yes, really!).

And this is what I was knitting…

P1060141My very own hedgehog! I’m not thrilled with how his nose turned out but, apart from that, it’s just cute! I love it! And, truly, it was very simple. Two weights of yarn are used, a DK weight and a heavy worsted weight. The face and underbelly are knitted on 3.5 mm needles and the body is worked in garter stitch on 4.5 mm needles. There is no seaming involved and the only thing that qualifies as sewing are the eyes and the nose. They’re stitched on after the hedgehog is finished. The pattern is available for free on Ravelry; if you’re not on Ravelry (why aren’t you, anyway??), you can find the pattern on the Purl Bee website here.

It is very likely there will be an explosion in hedgehog numbers in my little corner of the world… of the knitted variety.
